HDTVPilipinas - The Reason for Being

Scanning over Google search results and browsing on websites of major local appliance distributors, it is surprising to find out that information on high-definition televisions (HDTVs) being sold locally are scant and if at all, the details available rarely go beyond the official descriptions typically given out by manufacturers.

Typical HDTV model description given in websites.
The information given are mostly generic and hardly
understandable to ordinary people.

It was quite surprising, considering that these gadgets have been around since the late 1990s, their popularity are growing by leaps and bounds in the developed countries and even in the developing world, adoption of higher resolution TVs as replacement for the legacy cathode-ray-tube televisions is on the rise. And it’s all the more surprising since these HDTVs are rather expensive, and consumers have to shell out hard-earned cash not just for the televisions but for peripherals (such as cable subscriptions, BluRay/HD players, etc.) if one is to enjoy the full benefits of watching videos and movies in higher resolution and greater detail.

Major local sellers such as SM Appliance Center (http://www.smappliance.com/index.php), Abenson  Inc. (http://abenson.myayala.com/), and EMCOR Inc. (http://www.emcor.com.ph/) carry numerous HDTV brands for the local market. Aside from the global players that had been sold locally for years like Samsung, Panasonic, Sharp, LG, Hitachi, Sony, Toshiba and Sanyo, there are lesser known brands that are quietly making inroads into the Philippine market, like TCL and Haier. Thus, it is important for buyers to learn more about the HDTV products in the market, and provide them information, reviews and current marketing trends in order to help them buy wisely.

I have been writing about HDTVs for three years, contributing reviews and articles to a UK-based HDTV authority website, so I reckoned I can fill some of the void by leveraging the extensive knowledge I gained in my technology-related writing and research. Thus, I decided to start this HDTVPilipinas blog to do just that.
